Florida FR44
After a DUI license suspension, you’ll need to file a Florida FR44 certificate to reinstate your license. In Florida, FR44 insurance is specifically for DUI-related license reinstatement. It is separate from SR22 insurance, which is for non-substance related suspensions. You can purchase a Florida FR44 certificate whether or not you own a vehicle.
Florida DUI Insurance
Florida DUI insurance, or Florida FR44, is a financial responsibility certificate you submit to the state after a DUI conviction. You can buy FR44 insurance whether you own a vehicle or not. The FR44 document is an addendum to an auto or non-owner insurance policy. The policy and certificate allow you to regain your driving privileges, as long as you keep the policy current.
Drivers convicted of a substance-related offense (alcohol or drugs) must purchase Florida DUI insurance to reinstate their driver’s license. Also known as Florida FR44 insurance, DUI insurance is a type of high-risk insurance.
Florida Non Owner SR22 Insurance
If you don’t own a vehicle, Florida non owner SR22 insurance allows you to reinstate your driver’s license after a suspension. Non owner insurance covers you for liability when you drive a borrowed vehicle. It does not cover damages to the car you’re driving, or to passengers in the car with you. Therefore, be sure the owner insures the vehicle you drive.
The state requires you to carry Florida non owner SR22 insurance as a condition for reinstating your driving privileges after a license suspension. When you don’t own a vehicle, you’ll need to file a non-owner SR22 certificate with Florida HSMV.
