Effective July 18, 2018, Rhode Island no longer requires drivers to carry SR22 insurance for in-state license suspensions. However, the DMV will require you to obtain an auto insurance policy for an out-of-state license suspension. If you need an out-of-state filing, you must prove to the Adjudication Office that you have a Rhode Island auto policy and filed an SR22 with the state that requires it to avoid suspension of your license.

What is SR22 insurance Rhode Island?
SR22 is a guarantee of future financial responsibility. It’s a certificate attached to your Rhode Island auto insurance policy filed with the state that requires it. The issuing insurance company monitors the policy to ensure you maintain it for the time the state assigns.
